How Danske Bank and its startup partners started testing ideas as working software instead of slides, without waiting for engineering capacity.
The problem.
Decision makers were judging concepts from documents rather than software they could use. Many ideas never made it past slides.
The pace of innovation was set by available engineering capacity, not by the quality of the ideas.
Danske Bank and its startup partners needed to validate ideas quickly, and traditional development cycles were too slow for the demands on them. Early-stage concepts stalled waiting for scarce engineering capacity even when their technical requirements were modest, and teams struggled to get real user feedback because there was nothing real to put in front of users.
The prototype.
A low-code prototyping setup using Lovable and AI-assisted workflows was introduced to convert loose ideas into functional MVPs.
The point to prove was that non-engineers and hybrid teams could move from concept to a testable product experience without a full engineering project; the tooling itself was secondary.
Selected ideas were built into MVPs capturing the core user journey and business logic, with AI-assisted tooling scaffolding interfaces and automating boilerplate while keeping each prototype inside the bank's constraints.
In production.
The setup became a repeatable path from validated MVP to production-ready solution.
The low-code environment carries the handover: documentation, technical decisions, and the structure an engineering team needs to harden a concept.
The environment works as a front end to the bank's delivery process rather than a separate test lab: ideas are shaped, tested and de-risked there before full engineering takes over where necessary.
The bank now finds out what is worth building before committing engineering capacity to it, which is where the speed shows up.
